BRET McGATLIN – HEAD COACH
Coach McGatlin is looking forward to his fourth season building the Charger Football Program. He grew up in Colorado and graduated from Green Mountain High School where he played free safety and wide receiver. He attended Adams State College where he earned his BS degree. At Adams State he played wide receiver and earned All-Conference honors as a wide receiver. Prior to coming to Chatfield he taught and coached at Green Mountain High School. Coach McGatlin has a Masters Degree in School Administration and teaches Physical Education. He is also an Assistant Track Coach. Coach McGatlin values time with his family; Tracy, his wife, and their three children Blake, Ella and Kenzey.
BILL PANEK – DEFENSIVE CO-COORDINATOR
Coach Panek will start his third year as Varsity Defensive Co-Coordinator and his ninth season with Chatfield Football.
Coach Panek graduated from Bear Creek High School where he played football and was a member of the Bear Creek ‘84 State Championship track team. In addition to coaching duties with Chatfield football, Coach Panek works as a Specialist at Coors Brewing Company. He lives “next door” with wife Anne. Their son Eric, a “06 Chatfield graduate, attends the University of Northern Colorado.
CRAIG AUKLAND – DEFENSIVE CO-COORDINATOR & DEFENSIVE BACKS
Starting his third year at Chatfield, Craig Aukland is a graduate of Bear Creek High School where he played football and was named an All Colorado Wide Receiver. Coach Aukland played Wide Receiver and Defensive Back while attending Western State College in Gunnison. He teaches Physical Education and coaches Basketball at Chatfield. Craig, and his wife Hollie, keep very busy with their young sons Payton and Braylon.
DAN SHAFFER - OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR & RUNNING BACKS
Coach Shaffer will be starting his third season at Chatfield, second as Varsity Offensive Coordinator. He was previously the Head JV Coach and worked with running backs and linebackers. Coach Shaffer is a graduate of Green Mountain High School where he was on the ‘99 State Championship team. He was named MVP of the 4A State Championship game, 1st Team All State, Jeffco League MVP and Colorado 4A Player of the Year. Coach Shaffer graduated from the Air Force Academy in 2004 with honors on the Commandants List. A three-year starter and Captain his Senior year, he was the 7th fullback in AFA history to gain 1000 yards in a career. After completing his military commitment with the Air Force, Coach Shaffer returned to Jeffco and is currently working as an Engineering Planner at Lockheed Martin. He and his wife Katie live in Morrison.
PAT CLEMENTS, DEFENSIVE LINE
2009 marks Coach Clements fourth year working with the D-line at Chatfield. He is originally from Michigan where he was a three sport letterman at Howell High School. While there he earned All Conference, All City and All State honors his junior and Senior Years in Football at Linebacker and Full Back as well as being named All Conference in Basketball and All State in Track. He still holds his high school record for the discus. He played football at Western Michigan University on a scholarship. He lettered all four years and was All Conference and Defensive Player of the year both his Junior and Senior years. Coach Clements earned his BS in Computer Science with a Math Major and a Physics Minor. He currently works as a Senior Systems Analyst at Lockheed Martin. Coach Clements and his wife Tammy have three children; Daniel, who attends CU, Amanda 13 who is a freshman at Chatfield and Andy (Chatfield Class of ’07) who will be starting his second year playing football at Colorado State University.
MIKE ‘GORDO’ GORDON, OFFENSIVE LINE
Coach Gordon is starting his third year with the “Rhinos” as he affectionately refers to the Offensive Lineman. Coach
Gordon graduated from Green Mountain High School and was an Offensive Tackle playing for Coach “Mac” McGatlin’s ‘95 State Championship team. He recently completed a degree in History and Education at Metro State College and is teaching at Conifer High School.
WILL BURGER— QUARTERBACKS
Coach Burger will be starting his third season on the Varsity level coaching the Quarterbacks after working with the freshman program for three years. Coach Burger graduated from Bear Creek High School where he played football and baseball earning 2nd Team All Conference honors at Quarterback. He went on to the University of Denver to play baseball on scholarship. Coach Burger is a Buyer for Samuel Engineering and lives in Highlands Ranch with his wife Cheryl and two children, Morgan and Evan.
MARVIN “ MOOSE” MILLER—PUNTERS & KICKERS
Coach Miller will be working with the punters and kickers again this year after serving as the Freshman Head Coach in 2007. Coach Miller brings over 300 wins and more than 40 years of coaching experience. Moose is a Colorado Native and graduated from Arvada High School where he participated in the North-South All-State Football Game. He attended Trinidad State Junior College, University of Colorado and graduated from Western State College. He earned All-conference honors while playing at Trinidad and played Center and Linebacker while at CU. Moose has a BA in Secondary Education and a MA in Human Relations and Organizational Behavior. Coach Miller is “doubly retired”; teaching (Social Studies at Mancos & Highland) and Staff Development and Training (Coors & Rocky Flats). Moose and his wife Paula enjoy their large combined family of 7 children, 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
MATT WILSON - LINEBACKERS
Coach Wilson will be joining the Chatfield staff this year to work with the Varsity Inside Linebackers. Originally from Glenwood Springs, Colorado, he attended Glenwood Springs High School where he participated in Football and Track. He went on to play football at Western State College of Colorado. At Western State he earned All-Conference Academic honors for three years and was awarded the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award. He majored in Business Administration with emphasis in Marketing and a double minor in Economics and Psychology. Coach Wilson is a Sales Manager at Eagle Claw Fishing Tackle and enjoys Fishing, Hunting and Coaching.
MARK BERGDALE— WIDE RECEIVERS
Starting his third season at Chatfield, Coach Bergdale will be working with the Varsity Wide Receivers this year. Originally from Pennsylvania, he graduated from Gettysburg High School. During high school he participated in Wrestling, Football and Golf. He went on to play football and wrestle at Gettysburg College where he was named a Little All American. After completing his undergraduate work at Gettysburg, he completed a MA in British and American Literature at Missouri State and a MBA in International Finance at the University of Colorado. Coach Bergdale teaches English at Chatfield. Prior to coming to Chatfield, Coach Bergdale was a teacher and coach at Green Mountain High School. He and his wife Mary have two children, Chris and Ashley.
TREVOR NELSON— HEAD JV COACH, LINEBACKERS
Returning for his second year at Chatfield, Coach Nelson will take on Head Coaching responsibilities for the JV. He is a former player of Coach McGatlin’s from Green Mountain High School. At Green Mountain he received Honorable mention All Conference honors and the Jerry Jones Award. He is the Owner/Manager of Nelson & Sons Plastering and Colorado Rising Sons. In his spare time he enjoys snowboarding, wakeboarding and lifting weights.
ALLEN BUCHER - RECEIVERS
After a short hiatus, Coach Bucher returns to the Chatfield staff to work with the JV Defensive Backs. Coach Bucher is originally from Wyoming where he was an All Conference Football and Baseball player and two-time Wyoming State Diving Champion. While in high school, he lettered in Football, Wrestling, Swimming, Track and Baseball earning one All American, five All State and two All Conference honors. Coach Bucher has undergraduate and graduate degrees in Computer Science from the University of Wyoming and the University of Colorado respectively. Coach Bucher has received both the Space Shuttle Silver Snoopy Award and the NASA Public Service Medal, among the highest honors awarded to non-astronauts by NASA. He is currently senior executive and co-owner of Advanced Solutions, Inc. Allen and wife Alissa have three children—Ryan, an ’01 graduate of Chatfield who played on the ‘02 State Championship team, Jennifer played soccer at the University of Wyoming and Kailey who graduated from Chatfield in 2008.
ANDRE GISETTI— JV DEFENSIVE LINE
Coach G moved to Colorado from New York ten years ago but has lived in Oregon, California, and Connecticut. He attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY and earned his BS degree. He played rugby and was named to the Metropolitan NY Rugby Football Union All-Select Side from his sophomore through his senior year of college. He spent an
extra year at the college and coached the first ever Marist College Women’s Rugby Club. He has a Masters of Arts degree in Higher Education Administration from New York University. He currently is attending Metro State College of Denver to gain a teaching license in Social Studies and Science. He works as a substitute teacher for Jefferson
County. He lives with his wife Jacque and their dog Yukon in Lakewood.
DAN RIECKE- JV OFFENSIVE LINE
Coach Riecke works as an Industrial Security Representative for Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company and holds a bachelor of science degree from Reis University. He will be joining the Chatfield staff to work with the JV offensive line, having coached youth sports for the past twenty five years including football, baseball, boys/girls lacrosse and girls softball. His wife Shelly is a graduate of Green Mountain High School and owns/operates a very successful business in Lakewood. His son Dak, a 2007 graduate of Green Mountain, is attending and playing lacrosse at University of Northern Colorado and coaches varsity football for Skyline High School. His daughter Demi is a senior at Green Mountain, plays softball and lacrosse, and was selected to play for Triple Crown Team USA softball this past summer.
DAVID POLEI-OFFENSIVE LINE/SPECIAL TEAMS
Coach Polei returns for his fourth year working with Chargers. This year he will be assisting with the Offensive Line and working with the Special teams after spending the last three years with the Freshman teams. Originally from Greenville, Ohio, he graduated from Greenville High School where he was named 1st Team All Miami Valley League Linebacker after completing an undefeated 10-0 Senior season. Coach Polei played football for two years while attending Northern Arizona University. He is currently a Regional Manager for Genemtech Oncology. His son Ryan attends Cal Poly-SLO and his son
Michael (Chatfield ’06) attends Colorado State University.
CURT VANNER – HEAD FRESHMAN COACH/Defensive Coordinator
Coach Vanner will be starting his second year as Head Coach of the Freshman team. He is from Littleton and graduated from Bear Creek High School where he played football and wrestled. Prior to coming to Chatfield, he coached football on the youth level through South Jeffco Sports Association for nine years. He has worked in his family’s business, Denver Bumper, for more than 20 years. He has three children; Taylor, Jayde and Gage.
TERRENCE SALLEY, FRESHMAN DEFENSIVE LINE
Originally from Goose Creek, South Carolina, Coach Salley was raised in Colorado Springs where he attended Roy J. Wasson High School 95-99'. He played football, basketball, and track and was part of the State Champion track team in 1998. He attended Adams State College and played football for the Grizzlies then moved to Denver with his wife and attended Metro State College gaining his B.A. in Psychology. During his time in Denver, Coach Salley played on a few Semi-Professional football teams; he played with the Denver Titans for three seasons winning three championships in a row. After a short stint playing with the Denver Pirates, he went on to coach the Denver Titans, leading them to a fourth championship in five years. He played in the NIFL with the now defunct Denver Aviators. Coach Salley currently works for Jefferson County Human Services and provides case management to various clients. Besides coaching he reports, “ I just enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife Rowan and having as much fun as possible!” He is enjoying his new position at
Chatfield and says as always, “GO CHARGERS!”
DESTRY DUCKETT—FRESHMAN OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR
Coach Duckett has been involved in youth sports for more than nineteen years, coaching football, baseball, basketball and soccer. He coached High School baseball for Dakota Ridge and Independent Summer teams. He works for O’Connor Roofing Company as an Estimator and Project Manager. Coach Duckett graduated from Sheridan High School and played football, basketball and boxed. baseball. He and his wife Marilyn have four “grown” children; Justin, Jake, Jenna and Josh. He’s also proud Grandpa of two grandchildren, Jordan & Baylee.
JOHN EMMERICH- FRESHMAN OFFENSIVE LINE
Coach Emmerich is originally from New York and is an avid Yankees fan. He previously coached both youth football and baseball for more than 10 years and coached High School baseball for four years. He returns for his second year to Chatfield as a “package deal” with Coach Duckett and Coach Vanner. He has been a Route Salesman for Robinson Dairy for twenty-seven years. He and his wife Sue have two sons; Jason and John.
KEITH MEAD - FRESHMAN WIDE RECEIVERS
Coach Mead is returning to coaching football this year after retiring in June as the principal at Chatfield Senior High. He coached previously at Chatfield as an assistant from 1985 until 1995 and served as the head coach from 1996 to 1999. He also coached at Green Mountain High school before Chatfield opened. In addition to football, Keith also coached track for many years. Coach Mead graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in English, earned a Masters Degree in Counseling from Lesley University and an Administrative degree from the University of Phoenix. Coach Mead and is wife Judy enjoy traveling whenever possible. They also spend time with their family, which includes two daughters, Stacy Mead and Erica Concilio, their son-in-law, James Concilio, and granddaughter, Bella.
RON GONZALES-FRESHMAN DEFENSIVE BACKS
Coach Gonzales bring six years of experience coaching at the youth level with South Jeffco Sports Association. He graduated from Alameda high school where he participated in football and track. He has a degree in Finance from Metro State College and works in equipment leasing with BSB Leasing. He enjoys wakeboarding and snowboarding. His family includes wife, Renee and sons; Ryan and Stefan
